It is an understatement to say that I feel passionate about breast health.

I have lost close family members to breast cancer, which has flavored my childhood and early adolescence with fear, sadness and apprehension. After spending many years undergoing breast screenings every 6 months, and all the while learning more about the draw backs of frequent mammograms and Breast MRI tests with contrast, I decided to undergo a preventative double mastectomy and reconstruction.   This was not an easy decision, and it required much support.

After having had the surgery, I have experienced a sense of relief that had been so deeply foreign to me. There had never been a time before getting this surgery when I was not afraid of cancer or feeling as if I was living on borrowed time. Living life like that was profoundly disempowering.

It is precisely because of these experiences that I decided to open up about this deeply personal subject – to help empower other women who are grappling with this matter without guidance, alone and in silence.

Unfortunately, the process of looking for surgeons and exploring reconstructive options felt equally as discouraging as most hospitals and medical providers concentrate on the health of body and care little about the health of the individual and their state of mind.  Their focus is not on providing aesthetically pleasing results, effective pain management, or treating patients with respect or kindness.

I want to be a resource for others who are going through this journey, either because they have active breast cancer or because they have a genetic pre-disposition that leaves them vulnerable to a heightened possibility of cancer.  It is impossible to reduce this incredibly complex topic to several paragraphs, so I invite you to reach out to me directly.

It is vulnerable, overwhelming, frightening, and lonely to be exploring options on your own.

I welcome your curiosity, your fear, your apprehension and all the complex emotions that attend a subject of such enormity. I am here to respond to you with kindness and hope.

Let’s talk.
